I had the most amazing experience with Tunowa, the curly hair master! 🌸 From the moment I walked in, the salon felt warm, welcoming, and friendly, you immediately feel at home. This was my very first curly haircut, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Tunowa truly works like magic. She not only has incredible skill but also so much heart, she treated me like an older sister, embraced my curls, and made me feel proud of them. I trusted her instantly, and the results were beyond my expectations. The whole team is just as wonderful, so kind, supportive, and genuine. If you have curly hair, this is the place you’ve been looking for. Honestly, I wish they would open a branch in Orange County because so many curly-haired girlies here desperately need this kind of care and expertise. Thank you, Tunowa and team, for making me fall in love with my curls all over again. You are truly the BEST! ✨💚✨

This is by far my favorite salon. It was love at first sight. I also love that they're called Black Sheep, because I've always identified as one myself. I booked a wash + cut + style with Mimi, and from start to finish, the experience was flawless. The environment is incredibly relaxing: no judgment, no pressure to talk too much or too little. (In the past, barbers made me feel awkward and judged for being on the quieter side, but here I felt completely at ease.) Mimi is smart, easygoing, and polite - she nailed my wolf cut perfectly. I left feeling not just great about my hair, but genuinely comfortable and cared for. The rest of the staff are equally friendly and cool, which really adds to the welcoming atmosphere. HIGHLY recommend this salon. They check every box and then some. If you're looking for a place that blends skill, comfort, and personality – this is it.

I've visited twice now and had a great experience both times. First salon I've been to that I'd highly recommend to be honest. Tombra did a post-braid detangle and silk press for me during my first visit. Second visit was a wash and curly set with Dinnie. Both stylists did amazing work; were gentle yet thorough with my hair. The salon is amenable to any accessibility needs and uplifts all gender presentations and hair types!! The prices are quite reasonable relatively and I've enjoyed the environment being there both times :)

I had an amazing first curly cut experience at The Back Sheet Salon with Tombra! Everyone was so welcoming — I instantly felt comfortable and cared for. I came in nervous because of past experiences with stylists who didn’t understand my hair, but Tombra truly listened to me and made me feel seen. She explained every step of the process, shared tips and product recommendations, and taught me how to care for and style my hair (4b/4c high density). My hair has never looked this hydrated or defined! The salon vibes were great (music, energy, everything), and the prices are reasonable for the quality and care you get. If you have coily or textured hair and want a safe, knowledgeable natural salon in SoCal — this is it!

I had such a great experience at Black Sheep Salon in Long Beach. Emory, the owner, met with me first for a quick consultation to talk through my hair goals. I booked an appointment about two weeks later and came in for the service. One thing I immediately appreciated is how intentional the salon is about making people feel comfortable and supported. You can see it throughout the space and in how they show up for their community, which honestly made me feel really good about spending my money there. Everyone was warm and kind, but not in that overly performative customer service way - I immediately felt comfortable. Before starting, Emory talked with me again about what I wanted - dialing in the tone for my blonde while covering my greys in my natural color. They were also really transparent about the possibility that things might come out a little darker at first because of old box dye I had used before (which thankfully was met with zero judgment haha). The whole appointment felt very balanced - a kind of the Goldilocks experience if you will. Not too much talking, not awkward silence, just easy conversation, clear communication, and a really nice atmosphere. Since I had let my roots grow out for way too long, we had talked about banding being a possibility. The goal was simply to get my hair into a better place than when I walked in. After everything was dried, cut, and styled, I thought I might be seeing some banding, but I honestly was still happy because Emory had already gotten everything looking so even and cohesive. Then when I got home and looked in the mirror again, I realized there actually wasn’t any banding at all (at least not to my untrained eye). What I thought I saw earlier was just a shadow. I was genuinely blown away. I’m not an easy person to please when it comes to my hair (something I admitted right away) and I truly couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The pricing felt fair, their policies are reasonable, and the whole experience

Dinnie- I don’t even know where to begin. Dinnie didn’t just “do my hair” — she genuinely gave me my confidence, my joy, and a piece of myself I thought I’d lost. Walking into her chair, I felt defeated by my hair. Walking out, I felt reborn. She listened, she cared, she understood exactly what I needed even when I couldn’t find the words. Her talent is unbelievable, but her heart is what makes the whole experience life-changing. For the first time in a long time, I look in the mirror and actually feel like me — not hiding, not compensating, not wishing for something different. She gave me hair that feels natural, beautiful, and truly mine. I can’t explain how huge that is. If you are looking for someone who can completely transform the way you feel about yourself, someone who is equal parts artist, healer, and magician — go see her. She didn’t just fix my hair. She gave me back my life.

This place is such a safe space. We feel seen, welcomed and genuinely cared for in this salon. The staff is ALWAYS warm and friendly. My 5-year-old son’s barber , Mimi, takes great care of him. He is normally very anxious and has difficulty with being in new spaces with new faces, but from day 1 Mimi took the extra time to help him feel comfortable with one of his first hair cuts. We have never looked back. We love coming to Black Sheep Salon. The hospitality is unmatched and the space is SO cute! Well designed, spacious, and filled with love. We are never leaving!

Just got my 3-month touch up by Queen Dinnie 👑. I got my initial Qiqi treatment in December, and the hospitality, inclusivity, queer-friendliness, and neurodivergent-accommodating aspect still remains the same. I am so thankful for the refreshed confidence I have. Dinnie is knowledgeable and talented, along with the other stylists that makes this particular shop cozy and lively. Not trying to be dramatic— ever since I’ve been getting my hair done here, I’ve been feeling like I got a new lease on life or something 🤣
